5 Most Dangerous Countries in the World


1. Afghanistan


Afghanistan was the least peaceful country in the world, according to the 2019 GPI (Global Peace Index) report. Travel to all parts of Afghanistan is considered unsafe due to following reasons: kidnappings, hostage taking, suicide bombings, widespread military combat operations, landmines, terrorist and insurgent attacks. Along with becoming the world’s most dangerous country, Afghanistan is also one of the poorest countries in the Middle East with most people striving to survive. Approximately 42% of the local society lives below the country poverty line.

2. Syria


The civil war has been flaming in Syria since March 2011, and it is currently one of the most dangerous destination across the world. There have been many terrorist attacks almost everywhere in the country, which include major cities and the risk comes from many terrorist groups that are active, such as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and Daesh. Before the war, Syria was a country of wonderful natural diversity with lots of archeological sites worth traveling to.

3. Yemen


Most countries travel advisory has strongly advises to avoid travel Yemen because of the on-going local and international conflicts. There are intense political instability, military airstrikes and an extremely high threat of terrorism and kidnapping. Hodeidah, or Al Hudaydah, is currently the most dangerous city in Yemen to be avoided. In 2019, one fourth of all civilian casualties throughout Yemen had been recorded in Hodeidah.

4. Countries of Africa


Libya, Mali, Somalia, Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and the Central African Republic, all in Africa, are the riskiest countries. However, Africa is home to more than 50 countries and most of them are generally safe. In Africa, there are about four main safety hazards: crime, armed conflict, animals, and diseases. Take extra precautionary measures especially for solo travelers.

5. Iraq


Iraq continues to have both external and internal issues. ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) continues to attack and kill civilians and Iraqi armed forces. While the attack can take place at any where at any time, there is an increased threat during public holidays and religious practices. Other human rights violations, such as violations of women’s rights and freedom of assembly, have remained. Airlines are avoiding to fly over Iraq as Iraq continues to carry out missile attack.
